Scccrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech.
As you come to a screeching halt upon reading the headline, I'd like to announce that it is a well known secret (still reaming from the title, you missed this joke, didn't you) that Western Career College has free dental cleanings. Our dependable sources (a.k.a. someone from my church) have used this for years with great satisfaction. Our pleasant and resourceful staff (you guessed it, me) checked into the limitations: none, other than a child must be older than 3 years of age.
The cost is absolutely free. Here's how it works:
Students attend Western Career College and work towards gaining their degree in Dental Hygiene. You (ah, so lucky..and unsuspecting) are their guinea pig. They will clean your teeth and the cleaning will be inspected by a full fledged, real life, master instructor (I threw in all the fancy titles..).
PROS: Although they're not ("pros", that is), who can beat the low, low price of FREE?!
Bring your I-Pod, Walkman or MP3 player and headphones and catch up on a great audio book!
Because the students are being graded on their performance and final outcome, (and they've already spent thousands on their schooling), you get a very detailed and thorough cleaning.
CONS: If you need it now, you're in trouble - the waiting list can be months from now, but there's a cancellation list.
You're gonna' be here for a while...2 hours in the hot seat to be exact. But again, who can beat the low, low price of FREE?!
SAVINGS: We usually pay over $100 per session at our dentist every year, per person. For us, the savings would be $200+ per year. It's practically money in your pocket when you think of it - prevention is the best medicine!

Save on cleaning products & disinfectants for the home
What can we buy for less than $1, use as mouthwash, removes stains from clothing, whitens teeth, disinfects cutting boards, and is used in hospitals?
I have received this email twice now in the last two years. (My annual email, you could say!) In especially these economic times, it is fitting. However, Fruitfully Frugal is not just to do with money, but time and space, as well. One bottle will save space versus ten bottles of cleaning agents, including your window cleaner! Time is saved because we know and trust this little brown bottle (yes, another hint) ... no more reading labels for 'green cleaning'. Buy in bulk and stock up...here's the email;
"This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me.
"I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell youabout peroxide.
"Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!! Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. They are wiser and know better!
"Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, folks! And it was used to kill our troops.
"Peroxide was invented during WWI. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this:
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead ofmouthwash..
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect withou t harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.
9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
11. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water.Repeat if necessary.
12. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.
"I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without!
"With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!"

The Savings is in the Soup!
One thing I learned from the Tightwad Gazzette was never to waste anything.
Tonight I made what I call leftover soup and boy was it good. The pan was just about licked clean. It was a mexican soup and it consisted of: from the freezer- 1/2 cup left over taco meat, 1 1/2 cup leftover macaroni and cheese, 1 cup corn, from the fridge- 1/2 cup sliced green onion, a tomato that was ready to turn, 1/3 cup left over home made salsa, 1/3 cup picante sauce, and 2 cup home cooked pinto beans. To this I added water, a little beef bullion and about 1/4 tsp liquid smoke. I served it up with some left over home made whole wheat bread, and then we had water melon slices for dessert.
I very rarely follow a recipe for soup. Traditionally, soup always consisted of what was on hand. It is important to have a rich tasting broth and the rest is what ever you need to use up quick. Little bits of meat can be put in the freezer, a left over pork chop, chicken, ground meat. Pasta, rice, beans, bits of left over cooked veggies, water from cooking veggies, you name it. Always save your left overs. You can freeze left over sauces and gravies too. I usually pick a theme; our favorite is mexican. But you can do chicken and rice, Italian minestrone, vegetable beef, etc...
Rich broths can be made from saving all your produce end pieces in a freezer bag. Add some left over bones from a chicken dinner. Any germs left behind will be cooked off when you make the broth. Put it all in large pot and cover with water. Add 1 tbs. apple cider vinegar. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat and let simmer until water has evaporated at least 50%. Strain, and use for soup, or other recipes that call for broth.

Emergency $45 Menu to feed 4 for the week...
If you're in a pinch with a bare kitchen, we've found a site, The Hill Billy House Wife, that has a menu plan for one week, along with the shopping list and nutritional data, recipes and daily schedule to help you get through an entire week on $45 for 4 people, or $51 for 6.
Even if you don't need this right now, it is informative and some techniques can be incorporated into anyone's current budget so we don't have to 'put our money where our mouth is', so to speak.
All the work is done for you, just right click and save it to your computer or print it out and go to the store. Items were purchased based on prices at the Dollar Store and Walmart. WinCo may be cheaper, and they do accept coupons (unless they are printed from the computer, as many of those are fake).
Also, I double checked and SaveMart does not take competitor coupons, nor does it have a double coupon day program. I spent *GASP* $237 on groceries yesterday, and that was only 6 bags with coupons. Granted, I spent about $40 on drawer organizers, nevertheless...now we know, it's not the name, but the price that matters.
Without further ado, click this link to the HillBilly HouseWife's super cheap weekly menu plan.
